Meet Our Animal Family

Every animal has a story

Meet Our Animal Family

Where animals bring people together.

The heart of Alegria Ranch isn't found in our barns, pastures, or trails. It's found in the animals who call this ranch home. Each one has a unique personality, a special role, and an incredible ability to bring smiles to people of every age.

Some are playful. Some are curious. Some are gentle and quiet. Others love being the center of attention. Together, they create the unforgettable experiences that make Alegria Ranch unlike anywhere else.

Whether you're visiting for the first time or returning for another adventure, you'll quickly discover that our animals aren't simply part of the ranch. They're family.

Miniature Horses

Miniature Horses

Our gentle ambassadors

Our miniature horses are the stars of Alegria Ranch — and for good reason. Friendly, affectionate, and endlessly patient, they have a remarkable ability to connect with people of all ages. Whether they're greeting children during a field trip, visiting seniors through our Minis to Me® program, or posing for family photos, they create moments of joy that stay with our guests long after the visit ends. Their calm nature and smaller size make them approachable for first-time horse lovers while still capturing all the beauty and personality of a full-sized horse. For many visitors, meeting one of our miniature horses becomes the highlight of the day.

Fun fact: Despite their small size, miniature horses can live well into their thirties.

Guests enjoy learning about grooming, communication, daily care, and the special bond that develops between horses and people. Standing beside one of these gentle giants is an experience that inspires respect and wonder.

Fun fact: Horses can sleep both lying down and standing up, thanks to a locking mechanism in their legs.

Our Curious Goats

If there's one group guaranteed to make you laugh, it's the goats. Playful, energetic, and endlessly entertaining, they love meeting new people and are always eager to investigate visitors. Don't be surprised if one decides you're its newest best friend — their personalities are as unforgettable as their playful antics.

Fun fact: Goats have rectangular pupils that give them a wide field of vision.

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt

The most handsome rooster in Louisiana

Yes, his name really is Brad Pitt. Our colorful rooster proudly watches over the ranch each day and never misses an opportunity to announce the morning's arrival. Visitors love his striking appearance, bold personality, and unmistakable confidence. He's become something of a local celebrity — and he certainly knows it.

Fun fact: Chickens can recognize more than 100 different faces.

Our Barn Cats

Our Barn Cats

Every working ranch needs good barn cats. Ours keep a watchful eye on the property while happily accepting attention from visitors when they're in the mood. You may find them relaxing in the sunshine, supervising the barn, or quietly observing all the activity around them.

Fun fact: Cats spend nearly seventy percent of their lives sleeping.

Our Ranch Dogs

Our Ranch Dogs

No ranch feels complete without loyal dogs. Our friendly companions are always happy to welcome guests, escort visitors around the property, and remind everyone that wagging tails are universal signs of friendship.

Fun fact: A dog's sense of smell is thought to be up to 100,000 times stronger than a human's.

Big Red

Big Red

Our biggest little personality

Don't let the name fool you — Big Red is our beloved miniature cow with a heart just as large as his presence. Gentle, curious, and always ready for a scratch behind the ears, he loves greeting visitors along the pasture fence line and has become one of the ranch's most photographed residents. His calm, easygoing nature makes him a favorite for guests who have never met a cow up close before.

Fun fact: Miniature cows can live 15-20 years and are known for having especially gentle, docile temperaments.

Our Organic Unfiltered Apiary

Buzzing with life

Our Organic Unfiltered Apiary

Tucked along the tree line, our apiary is home to a thriving family of honeybees hard at work pollinating the ranch's pastures and gardens. We harvest small batches of raw, organic, unfiltered honey straight from the hive — nothing added, nothing taken away. Visitors love learning about the vital role bees play in our ecosystem and seeing firsthand how these tiny workers help keep Alegria Ranch flourishing.

A little wild, a lot of wonder

Our Butterfly Garden

Just past the fence line, our butterfly garden is bursting with coneflowers, lantana, and native blooms planted to welcome pollinators of every kind. Visitors love wandering the winding path and spotting monarchs, swallowtails, and other butterflies flitting from flower to flower. It's a peaceful, colorful reminder of how every corner of Alegria Ranch — even the smallest garden bed — plays a part in caring for the natural world.

Our Stocked Pond

Catfish, minnows & bluegill

Our Stocked Pond

Just past the pasture, our stocked pond is home to friendly catfish, darting minnows, and bluegill who have become pets in their own right. Visitors love tossing feed across the water and watching the surface come alive as they gather close, fins breaking the water in a race for the first bite. It's a favorite quiet moment for guests of every age, and a gentle reminder that even the ranch's waters are full of life waiting to say hello.

Why Animals Matter

Animals have an extraordinary way of bringing people together. They teach patience, kindness, responsibility, and compassion. They encourage conversation, reduce stress, build confidence, and create genuine moments of connection. That's why they're at the center of everything we do. Every animal at Alegria Ranch plays an important role in helping people experience the joy, peace, and wonder that only animals can provide.

Meet Them in Person

Photographs are wonderful and stories are inspiring, but nothing compares to standing beside a miniature horse, hearing the gentle greeting of a donkey, or sharing a laugh as curious goats gather around to say hello. That's the magic of Alegria Ranch. We invite you to visit, meet our incredible animal family, and discover why so many guests return again and again.
